"Can't say it slandered Åmål specifically. It describes the feelings and thoughts and search for identity that everyone has gone through. Everyone from small towns has longed to leave for various reasons, or at least most of them, and yet many remain. Rather, I think it has been good PR for Åmål. Never met anyone who said anything negative about Åmål because of the film.

But I've met a lot of people who have smiled and said oooo fucking Åmål when you talk about being from Åmål...."
