I am amazed, looking back. I can't find a specific Broder Daniel thread >.< We have spent so much time considering FA/SML so many years on. Speculating. Actually much of FA/SML was shaped by the selected tracks from Broder Daniel. The zeitgeist. In the absence of a script or storyline, I suggest you check out other tracks by BD. Their song 'Shoreline' didn't come out till 2004. For me, it encapsulates 'what happened next' Watch the video, read the lyrics. It's all there.

Shoreline lyrics

Ever since I was eight or nine.
I've been standing on the shoreline
For all my life I've been waiting for something lasting
You lose your hunger and you lose your way
You get confused and then you fade away
Oh this town kills you when you are young
Oh this town it kills you when you are young.
I'm not the boy that I used to be
This town has got the youth of me
All the eyes turn hollow
From the work of sorrow
You die young
You die when you're young
You die when you're young
We are shadows
Oh, we're shadows
Just shadows in the alley
Standing on the paving
By the office building
There's so much to do
Never time for you
You die young
You die when you're young
You die when you're young
We are shadows
Oh, we're shadows
Just shadows in the alley
I've got nothing
Nothing to wait for
Nothing to wait for
Ooh
Where is life in this town?
Where is life in this town?

We've spent a fair amount of time discussing BD under various topics but, what an omission. Not a topic of their own. :T

And I'll always think of Agnes whenever I hear Whirlwind. Image

I must say, I am very disappointed that more attention has not been devoted to this thread. We have speculated far and wide about FA/SML and what happened next. The reality is that we DON'T know, simply because it DIDN'T happen.
There is no FA/SML 2, although I am VERY sure there wil be a sequel of some kind in the future. Commercial pressure, sure winner, that kind of thang. Not sure I would want to see it as FA/SML is locked into a frozen moment of time. Long may it remain so. In any event a follow on with Rebecca and Alexandra is out of the question. What we do have, however is the music. Broder Daniel was the contemporary musical heart of FA/SML. They continued (with many line-up changes) and produced some excellent music in the same emotional vibe. They outlasted the film by 11 years before calling it a day. This link is to THE very final concert performance by BD. They had played their last number as a band, called 'W**K* (respects to Fishy). After taking a final bow, Henrik Berggren -the enigmatic singer, lyricist and soul of BD returned to the stage to play out, accompanying himself on guitar, on an acoustic version of 'No Time for Us'

This plaintive soulful performance will reduce you (as it did the audience) to frantic tears. As always the verbal simplicity of the lyrics, overly repeated refrains, conjures up exactly the emotional desert-land of FA/SML when there are no 'clever' USA-type smart quips to be traded between the protagonists. Please watch this, but preferably not on your own. Have a hand to hold onto even if it is Elin's Momma or Agnes Pappa.

Lyrics

there is no time for us
there is no time for us
oh the world won't understand
it's left no time for us

I love a girl I'll never see her again
she was so young I'll never see her again
she was so young
I'll never see her again

what is worthwhile in the world
if you can't be with the one you love
what is worthwhile
we'll be forgotten when we're gone

if I could change one thing in life
I'd make time for us
if I could change one thing
I'd make time for us

no time for us
no time for us
no time for us...

Great song.
Huge emotional investment by the crowd.
Would have been great to be there.

And,
Someway, some how, the story of Agnes and Elin will outlive us all. Image

My favourite tracks from the film by a good distance along with I Want to Know What Love is. The dance music does date the film a little bit, wish Moodysson got the rights to some of the Morrissey/The Smiths tracks he wanted.

I once did a thread on here I think about doing a new soundtrack for Fucking Amal, if I had to put new music in it and I didn't take out Broder Daniel tunes cause they were excellent. I'll Be Gone is my favourite.

You not the only one who melts during that scene Fish :D

Actually was playing that on my ITunes the other day, damn remember seen that scene for the first time and the song given me goosebumps, still does whenever I watch the film. Such a beautiful scene and song is the reason it works. As I said the Border Daniel songs (They are the Sweden's version of Jesus and The Mary Chain) have aged perfectly compared to a lot of the soundtrack which is very late 90's and still feels like it especially the dance music.

Nice throwback here: - I'll Be Gone - 1998 on a TV program called Hi Friday. Picture quality isn't great, it's in color and has audience participation dressed in (Stockholm) style of the time, the same year that FA was filmed and as we know Amal was at least 5 years behind the times. Let's go to Stockholm! :) This is as Bex and Lex might have seen on TV in the year FA was filmed. The instrumental backing is on playback (as was common in those days) but Henrik does live vocal.

SPELA SHORELINE (PLAY SHORELINE)

Controversy has arisen over the future of the famous 'SPELA SHORELINE' sculpture erected four years ago by two anonymous artists. It was designed to celebrate the frequently waved banners at Broder Daniel concerts, requests to play the song ''Shoreline' The Municipal Park Administration wants to remove the stone according to the regulations governing street art and public decoration. However, many have committed themselves to saving it, which has given a major impact in the media. It was erected at Slottsskogen as a tribute to the influential indie band Broder Daniel who made their farewell concert in Slottsskogen 2008

Given that the lyrics of the song are somewhat less than flattering about Gothenberg their home town perhaps the concern is understandable. As a compromise it has been agreed to exhibit the stone at the ArkDes / Modern Museum in Stockholm until January. My suggestion is to then give it a permanent home and relocate the sculpture to Åmål as a tribute to 20 years since the film 'Fucking Åmål' (Show Me Love) was made. It is in the same region and has the same concerns as the song. Which you can hear on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5IJQ23HmPo

Classic, I love it.
If only there are enough willing people to make it happen. *:)*

What a good idea this sculpture, although the governments to hide it in a museum.
What luck you have in Sweden, here in Spain some fan would have stolen it to put it in your garden.

(In a city near Madrid, capital of Spain, they made AC-DC street.
At 10 min. of the inauguration stole the tile. They have never stopped doing it, it is the most stolen street in Spain. :Y  )
