Thanks hcd, especially for the French review! This film is really starting to interest me. Funny that I can't seem to find out when it will open in Germany.

Funny that I can't seem to find out when it will open in Germany.

It's already running in some cinemas. And Arte aired it in July 2007, IIRC.

Anyway, I just meant that if you saw that scene out of context it's likely you'd have a very distorted idea of the film, I like it better when you can go into the movie without any preconceived notions.

Ah, okay. Point taken.

So nothing to feel out of the loop about.

Pheeeeewwwww!!! :D

I'll have to pay more attention

Just look to the pic(s) below (click to enlarge: ~200kb):

so maybe the machines aren't all bad.

I've noticed that the translation to English is much better than to German.

Really? Regular cinemas or at festivals? And what's the title they use here?

Regular cinemas or at festivals?

Small independent cinemas are showing it under both names (Naissance des pieuvres / Water lilies). And it's running at festivals too. F.e. Cinedom Koeln showed it yesterday during the "Verzaubert" (verzaubert=enchanted) festival. In this case it runs on April 19, 2008 in Berlin.

This film distributor gives July 3rd, 2008 as the start date for German cinemas, which seems to be the real start date, because the cinemas of Ingolstadt confirm this date.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'm not terribly interested in "lesbian" movies, per se.

I just fell in love with this one.

Kissing Jessica Stein got already mentioned, but it's a good movie, obviously not even close to FÅ but still a four-star movie. It's not so much about forbidden love or anything, more like a typical liberal (in the American political sense of the word) approach to the subject of homosexuality among grown-up New Yorkers.

Just bought Water Lilies off ebay. Hope it's good.

Not FA good, of course (that would be too much to ask), just good!

It's good, it's a very different type of film from FÅ though.

Someone (can't remember who and am too lazy to look) once posted in the L4E thread about how the guy who stopped to give Elin and Agnes a ride was the flip side of a much darker element of life that was exposed in L4E (probably butchering that, sorry! :)), the relationship between the two girls in Water Lillies reminds me a bit of that, like it goes somewhere that you could have seen FÅ go, but happily for everyone involved it didn't.

Finally got around to watching this today - I think I was a bit put off by the fact it wasn't a love story  . Not bad, actually. Don't think FA's got any worries, though. :P
