And so, another SML/FA anniversary slips quietly by, uncelebrated. 18 years since the weekend the action took place. By now Agnes will be 34 years old.
Next year is the 19th year and it will pass by unnoticed. The point is that 2018 will be a HUGE milestone. 20 years. We should start planning for that event NOW. There WILL be press interest and media speculation.
Of course there are mega films and franchises that spawn websites and forums, with big money and merchandise behind them. Not many independently produced films survive that long in social media 'interest'. For example the 'Ginger Snaps' trilogy produced some great web content, interviews with actors, writers and film technicians, outtakes, set design layouts, location stills, and other 'insider' views that helped keep the trilogy active in the public imagination for 5 - 10 years post-production.
FA/SML was the making of Lukas Moodysson. He may consider it (perhaps even embarrassing) milestone in his career. So? Orson Welles started out his career with 'Citizen Kane' possibly the greatest film ever. He ended up promoting sherry on TV advertisements. No shame. Artistic careers on NOT incremental, but a creative roller-coaster. Celine Sciamma, 'Water Lilies' your first outing but will probably be your greatest achievement.
This website has MUCH to be proud of. A MASSIVE archive of fan fun and frivolity mixed with serious analysis and personal reflection. SML/FA is sure to get a big boost in 2018 on replays and re-broadcasts. Let's start planning the party NOW!
Why not produce a commemorative book/ e-book : a pot-pourri of recollections and photo repros (where we can get permission of owners) maybe even fan-fiction , self-publish and SELL it online to finance the future of this forum? Maybe just produce a 'mock-up' - I know a publishing house in Sweden that specialises in limited run 'fan-books' with the contacts and distribution network to make this work big-time.
Anyone on here would like to join me in looking at the possibilities? Feel free to message me
or discuss here.
