90s or 00s?

Postby Ian » Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:02 am

Okay, question. I'm thinking of doing some MVs of my top 10 movies from each decade (80s. 90s. 00s). I'm just a little undecided as to where to put FA. Now, I know, on first glance it should be easy as it was made in 1998. But, even regardless of the fact I didn't get to see it until 2001, it didn't get an OFFICIAL CINEMA RELEASE in this country until late 2000. So should I classify it as 90s or 00s?
It's just very odd for me to put it int he 90s because it just doesn't FEEL that way to me...

Opinions? Suggestions? Posts saying I'm a neurotic idiot? :P

Obviously that's a given.....

Knowing your talent for MVs you could safely include FA in both decades without offending anyone.

I've seen the film in 2008, so I've nothing against anyone putting it in the 00s

The music, the clothing and and other details, like the gameshow Elin is watching with her mom, and its visual appearance in general definetly makes it a 90s movie for me.

I've put it in the 90s, even though for me personally, it's my favourite film I've seen in THIS decade.

it was released in 1998, according to Wikipedia and imdb, but you can put whatever you want.

90s of course. I saw Bergman's "The Seventh Seal" from 1957 for the first time in 2006, but that wouldn't justify my grouping it with 00s movies, wouldn't it?

How do you even pronounce this ("00s"), by the way :? ?

Ah, but it's the fact that it didn't get an official cinema release over here 'til 2000 that confuses the issue, Dave. :P

Yeah, but if that is what counts, then what about the rather huge number of films that never ever get a release down there where you live ?!

Clearly, they don't really exist and you're just imagining them, Dave. :P :D

On this subject - of delayed releases in Australia, FA is not the worst example by a long way. It could, indeed, have been worse. The Twin Peaks movie "Fire Walk With Me" was released here in early 1998. I assumed it would therefore have been a 1997 production and was most surprised and pleased by the fact none of the cast seemed to have aged a day since 1991. Not surprising, since it was MADE in 1991 and released to the cinema everywhere else in the world in 1992! 1998 we got it!

INSANE!
