If you want more geographical facts about Åmål, then you should also know that the Swedish province that Åmål is situated in is called Dalsland, this is never mentioned in the film. Right beside Dalsland is Sweden's largest lake Vänern.

And snaps is right about the road, they shot the scene at the side of the road that in reality was the opposite direction to Stockholm.

The road is E 45 and goes in reality from Gothenburg in the south, and to the north via Trollhättan, Åmål, and Karlstad and from there all the way up to Lappland in the very north of Sweden.

If you stay on the same road you wont reach Stockholm though since it doesn't pass by that city.

Pardon me for being a pedant, but. The question was "When Agnes and Elin eventually hitch a lift, where does the road lead to?". At no stage did you ask where A & E were headed, just the road. Not which side the camera was on, just the road. And it doesn't matter that the road to Karlstad changes name and takes a sharp turn to the right before it heads to Stockholm, it's still the same sealed surface which makes it the same road.

I have this helpful theory that generally speaking every body of land has only one road on it.

So if I get your reasoning, say if you went from Adelaide to Alice Springs and the road continues to Darwen, which is where you want to get.You have a break because you are carsick and then continue your journey, But according to your logic it doesn't matter whether you head North or South because the road itself ends up in Darwen. This argument would only apply to circular roads like the M25. If you came off the M3 with the intention of joining the M1, of course you could exit South and drive for bloody miles the wrong way round the outskirts of London and still end up at the junction with the M1two hours later. I bet you're so stubborn you'd actually do that just to prove a point.
