Forum too large?

Postby Agnes&Elin Forever! » Mon Feb 11, 2008 5:47 am

Maybe this forum should have less sub-boards since the activity is not so high?

To me this would seem better and more focused.

Maybe have a board for Fucking Åmål and then just one board for all the rest of Moodysson's films?

And maybe no music boards at all, we could talk about music in the off-topic board?

What do you think?

Possibly.

It's tough to find something new to say, though, isn't it? (Especially when there's not a lot new - in terms of news - to talk about). I find myself repeating myself on boards that cover much bigger subjects, so it's a bit of a toughie. You don't want the board to die altogether!

Well, I have started a few threads since I came here, but the problem is that apart from you and Kant, and a couple of other persons nobody posts any replies.

We seem to have more visitors but they are all silent.

That's why I think this board is way too big at the moment.

Still I'm going to post some more, I think Fucking Åmål deserves it.

Yes, but I am afraid we have to face it: There simply aren't more regular users than us right now. I keep track a little of the number of hits (views) that the threads get; you can see that the number of visitors is very low at the moment. On the other hand, this was never a huge community, even during its most active days (probably 2005/06). Maybe there were a dozen regular contributors then, plus the occasional one-to-three-post-guest, but not more. Take a look at the members list: The 20 or 30 most prolific writers in this forum together have written something like 80% of its posts.

One of the more curious things at the moment is that there is no visible sign of the presence of our moderator who would be the right adressee for the topic that A&Eforever! brought up... Ole, are you there?

That's why I think this board is way too big at the moment.

I agree. I think it would be a good idea just to keep the forums that have actually been used - that is, one for each LM film, one for LM himself, one for Liljeberg and Dahlström, one for music in connection with the moodyversum, and one off-topic.

Yeah, I've also wondered if Ole checks the forum regularly? :?

Ehem... I must admit it's been a while since I last checked the forum (I miss a feature to get notified of every new post by e-mail). I've considered switching to a better forum system (I suppose phpbb is out in a new version too now). Anyway, that alone will of course not bring more activity. The original idea was to use this as a forum also for my webshop nordicdvd.com (you can see the header changing if you enter from that site). However, that hasn't really worked well so it's certainly a possiblity to make this a pure Fucking Åmål/ Lukas Moodysson forum. Another idea to get more activity was to make links to the forum from various pages on the site, but I haven't gotten around to that (yet).

I'd like to get back on the original poster's idea: In fact one single forum would suit the purpose just fine. This would have about 750 topics including everything that's ever been posted here, which really isn't that much.

It's not terribly important and wouldn't change anything regarding traffic, it would merely be a bit more comfortable to use, eg with one click one could see what's been posted lately.

Just one is a bit radical I think, but I will consider combining some more, i.e. not have a separate forum for all of Lukas Moodysson's films.

I think we could do something like the following:

ADMINISTRATION
- News, updates and feedback
- Mailing list

DISCUSSION
- Fucking Åmål
- Lukas Moodysson's other films (title could be improved)
- Rebecka Liljeberg (probably merged with Fucking Åmål)
- Alexandra Dahlström (probably merged with Fucking Åmål)
Not sure if also the two last forums can be merged into the first. After all Rebecka is not working as an actor anymore, so I guess discussion will mainly be about the past anyway. The forum for Oksana Akinshina is not used much and can be merged into "Lukas Moodyson's other films".)

- General discussion (merging film, music and off topic)
(Maybe a bit too broad?)

- Foreign language
("Foreign" in the sense that the board's main language is English.)

- Guestbook
(Not used now, but for historical reference.)

I think fewer would be better but so much of the site is made up of "old" topics without any action for years. Perhaps a severe cleanup into an "archive" file would serve the same purpose.

"archive" sounds like "closed file" to me. :/

I think putting Moodyson into one section is a good idea. Keep a section for Rebecka and Alexandra (or at least a joint Rebecka/Alex one), though, plus one for FA specifically (since it is the main focus). Then, I dunno... one for general entertainment (film/tv/music) and one for General Chat?

I'm with Kolya, I wouldn't want to see anything related to FA/Rebecka/Alex "closed" in that sense.

What I was meaning was an archive which could still be accessed from the main board, but which would contain all those inactive topics which cause the forum to seem a bit cluttered.

I don't know the logistics of carrying this out but I think it might make the active topics more accessable.

I completely agree with and cast my vote for Ole's proposal.

(Specifically, I think we should keep separate forums for Alex and Rebecka. The one for Alex will be needed because she will keep appearing in films that are not Fucking Åmål and not Moodysson films and so wouldn't fit anywhere else. And, if Alex has got one, Rebecka should have one, even if sweet reminiscing will be all that's going on there. )

Any changes to improve the site would have my support. I'd hate to see it suffer because people found it just too hard to find what they were looking for.
