Doctor Who - The Waters of Mars. Pretty good SF horror.

Doctor Who - Night Terrors. All kids think there are monsters in their closet. This one's right. Fun, spooky episode, one of the best of the current season. The dolls are well creepy.

It's on next week.

Doctor Who - The Talons of Weng-Chiang. Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper, Fu Manchu and the Phantom of the Opera collide in this wickedly sinister and wickedly funny Tom Baker classic. The Doctor & Leela arrive in Victorian London to find girls vanishing, a Chinese Tong skulking in the shadows, giant rats in the sewers and a sinister stage magician with a ventriloquist's dummy that appears to have a murderous mind of its own. Talons is one of the best - a gorgeously produced slice of comic-Gothic Victoriana, with Tom at the peak of his powers. His "savage" companion Leela, wonderfully played by Louise Jameson, is never funnier than here, pitted against the mores and manners of "civilised" Victorian London. Wonderful stuff.

Doctor Who - The Girl Who Waited. Excellent episode, really dark, powerful and surprisingly SF-heavy.

I don't think I'd want to travel with 11. Amy & Rory don't half get put through the wringer sometimes!

Amy should be left all soft and snuggly, not put through any wringer and made all hard and screwed up. :x

Doctor Who - The God Complex. Mm, bit of a disappointment after the last couple (esp last weeks). Not bad, but rather ponderous and weirdly unsatisfying on many levels. I can't believe that's really supposed to be Amy & Rory's last ep either (surely Moffat would want to write that himself). It just lacked the necessary emotion for that decision to work, to me (the end of last weeks would have been a better place for him to make that choice).

A bit ho hum. I'm not fussed about seeing more from Toby Whithouse, really. He's had 3 cracks at it and none have really been brilliant (Vampires of Venice is probably my fave of his, and that's as much down the deliciously lavish production as it is the script). 5/10.

Next week's looks quite good, though. Looks surprisingly scary for a sequel to last year's out-and-out comedy ep.

Doctor Who - Closing Time (new). What an odd episode. Good fun for the most part, marred by a very silly resolution that again renders the Cybermen a useless joke (are they ever going to get a decent episode in New Who?) and then wanders off into arc territory for an admittedly chilling but decidely jarring climax to set up next week's finale. Very odd indeed.
