What Are You Currently Watching (on tv/dvd)?

Basically (though 'some' rather than all episodes. Like The X Files, which would have about 5 or six eps per season (though they had longer seasons than Who) that were 'arc' related, and the rest standalones).

I don't like the format in Who, to be honest, but then I'm an old stick in the mud.

X Files: Medusa. Scary ep with some kind of flesh eating infection in the Boston Underground.

Doctor Who - The Doctor's Wife. Despite the silly (misleading) title, this was a really good little episode, best since the end of last season. With shades of McCoy era-esque surrealism, this was an engaging little one-off. Shame we can't have more like them.

Don't worry, I didn't. It was godawful, one of the very worst of last season (if not ever!)


X Files: Vienen. That old genre perennial, the "base under siege", returns to the X Files with this spooky ep, where an isolated oil rig is infested with the alien "black oil", which is capable of possessing humans. Good stuff, with more than a passing debt perhaps to the classic Patrick Troughton Who story "Fury from the Deep", which likewise featured an isolated oil rig infested with a possessing alien entity (only there it was seaweed! )
