It's certainly caught some of that Acquart intensity...evidently a labour of love. 8)

Wish I could draw likenesses!

You are right, I heard her say this too. So maybe parallels are not only excusable but intended. Some time has passed and I began to justify to myself some of the choices. I also read an analysis saying that in Bande de filles the main opposition is to the male, who uses all the tricks to dominate. This movie (and Tomboy also, although less) becomes much clearer if one focuses on the theme of the struggle for power.
The drawback of this method is the tendency to view all through the social prism.

Alas, again it's Acquart in character (even if this her character I like the most). Cool drawing anyway :) .

I look forward to seeing Bande des Filles [aka 'Girlhood' for the Anglos], very much, and also to what la Sciamma will do next.

She's set herself a pretty high standard, I reckon.

A good thing, too.

I've yet to see "Bande de Filles", but I'll make sure I correct the error of my ways soon.
(As soon as I buy it, that is. )
Looking forward to it after reading about it for so long. *:)*

"La Bande à Juliette" has been chosen for the 13th Festival du Cinéma de Brive. *:)*
A festival for medium length films which started a couple of days ago.

Pretty soon I'll have to start grovelling to the producers to see if I can get a copy. *:)*

I hope you'll post your opinions on it too.

It's called Quand on a 17 ans (when you're 17..., a part from a famous quote from Rimbaud), directed by André Techiné, script and dialogues by Sciamma. Seems to be about confused feelings. It comes out next week here.

Come on, enough festivals, get it on DVD already!
I didn't know there were festivals for medium length films. A shame that it's not more known. A shame that shorts are almost marginal productions too.

I took the plunge.
It was posted to me today. *:)*

There seems to be a festival for just about everything.
Probably the only reason all these short and medium length films are ever made I guess.
Hopefully we'll be able to track them down and get most/some of them.

Probably from the 2011 "Festival of Phone Ads". *:)*

I would hope that as in litterature there are short stories, novellas and novels, thus in cinema — short films, medium length and full length (80 minutes approximately and more). After all, why are most films full length features, apart from a convention that derives from the length of theatre plays? When you examine them, countless movies do not require 80 or 90 minutes to tell their stories, so they're stuffed with dispensable things (and not for the sake of pacing). Wouldn't it be liberating if this convention disappeared? It would have an impact on tickets prices of course, but it's not the most important — the stories are. Formatting is a burden, in my opinion. On TV it's understandable, for the tight programmation, but in theaters not quite, nor in the distribution. If editing one short film is not enough profit, then shorts should be put together by themes or directors or whatever adequate.
(Only dreaming here, of course, but it seems logical. :T )

Hopefully we'll be able to track them down and get most/some of them.

In a perfect world there would be DVD sets: Pauline Acquart: early short films vol.1  :T

Yes please!
Just a matter of time till vol.2, vol.3, etc.
That would make things an awful lot more simple. *:)*

Or "how the oppressed, when in power, become tyrannic rulers themselves"? :P
I don't mind festivals, except for the fact that they postpone releases. :P

Can't imagine where the picture is from.

(By the way, any news of Dans la chambre?)

The short film about which I cannot speak.
Perhaps Lucie could write a letter about it.

Owen wrote:...Dans la chambre?

I've only received a generic "thank you" from Christelle.
I've sent a message asking if there was any way we could see what was happening, but no response yet.
Disappointed, but ever hopeful. *:)*

The Cardinals seem to be going to a 3-D Film Festival. (Oh dear. Why did I say that?)

So we wait, as always. This thread kind of teaches patience. 8)
