Dead Silence. Intriguing little ghost story from the writer/director team behind the original Saw. Not perfect by a long way, but has some very effective moments of genuinely unsettling horror.


And let's face it, you just can't beat creepy dummies, now can you?

Saw Eva and Adam - Four Birthdays and a Fiasco last night. Didn't really know what to expect, since all I'd seen of the tv series is the bits with Rebecka in (and then with no subtitles!), so it was a bit of a punt getting it on dvd, really. But I'm glad I did - I really enjoyed it. Very likeable, sweet and VERY funny in places. Tobbe and that hyperactive Petra chick in particular both cracked me up.

I really enjoyed it. Shame you can't get the tv series on dvd.

Saw Urban Legend again last night. Fun schlock.

Saw Valkyrie at the cinema yesterday. Very good in general. I'd heard about the assassination attempt, but had no idea of the widespread coup attempt, which came oh so close to succeeding. Very dramatic.

I liked this movie (Valkyrie) but, about the conspiration, I have to say that chances of success seem very higher in the movie than they ever seemed in reality.

In some cities the SS were arrested, but the coup proceded stop and go, and, when Hitler could make the famous phone call you can see in the film, everything was lost.

Watched the first Harry Potter movie again last night. Not bad, though a bit too long. 2 hrs 20, crikey!

Yesterday i went to see The Wrestler.
A drama film about a Professional American Wrestler who's way past his glorious days. It is filmed from the lead characters perspective. It is said this is the return of Mickey Roarke and i have to say, i totally agree. He plays his role perfectly, a definite must see! (8.5 on IMDB)

Saw Halloween 4 again last night. Still one of my favourites of the sequels, good, enjoyable scary schlock. Earns extra points for having a very young Danielle Harris (who I've liked ever since Roseanne!) as Michael's prime target (which in itself adds extra frisson to the fear, that his main quarry is someone so young and completely defenceless).

Turned off Halloween 5 last night. Oh dear. Despite featuring many of the same cast as the excellent 4, this one really stinks. Bottom of the barrel stuff. Killing off one of 4's female leads inside the first 10 minutes is a HUGE mistake, and it just gets worse from there. (And the less said about the whole 'Man in Black' subplot, the better ). As is often the way when the filmmakers know they've got a loser, there's also an enormous amount of gratuituous gore (which 4, like the original, mostly did without) to try and hide the fact it's a stinker. It doesn't work.

Both Donald Pleasance and Danielle Harris deserved better than this

It is said this is the return of Mickey Roarke and i have to say, i totally agree.

Mickey Rourke already had a nice comeback in Sin City. The Wrestler sounds like a good role for him, I might have a look at it.

Sin City was kind of ...disturbing, but I was definitely hooked! Took me a while to realize and admit to myself that I loved it and couldn't think of much else for two or three days.
