The Bucket List - Nicholson/Freeman vehicle about living and dying, mildly comedic, not bad [for Hollywood] but not exactly great either.

Nicholson is a grumpy billionaire, Freeman a car mechanic, they meet in a cancer hospital [owned by N] become friends set off on a world tour fall out make up and die, the end.

Pardon my glib cynicism, but I find more and more that it annoys me to have my emotions skilfully manipulated by LA screenwriters.

LA screenwriter = an expensive prostitute of the emotions...? I think a case could be made.

Beautiful, beautiful film.
Outstanding performances by so many people.

Nominated for 15 BAFTA and Academy awards.

Isn't it, though? - even after all these years, when you've seen it half a dozen times, it STILL has you on the edge of your seat, gritting your teeth...

Blood Beach. A sunny beach in California becomes the centre for a swathe of disappearances, and it soon becomes clear that there is some kind of monster lurking beneath the sand, and pulling its victims under! The great John Saxon co-stars in (and is the best thing about) this mildly diverting early 80s B movie horror. He also gets to utter the film's best line - also used as the movie's tagline:
"Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water... you can't get to it!"

Sleepwalkers. Truly terrible early 90s Stephen King horror. Alice Krige appears to be acting in something else entirely, and is the only cast member to emerge with any credit, and while it starts off not too bad when it gets to the scene in the graveyard it becomes absolutely laugh out loud, hilariously bad. The bit where the cat attacks the guy's face and he's clawing at it reminded me of Leslie Nielsen doing the same with a towel in The Naked Gun and was about as ridiculous.
After that hilarity I turned it off and watched something intentionally funny instead, I.e Blackadder.

Knowing how high your standards are, it sounds like a real winner.

Cat's Eye. James Woods is a chain-smoker who hires Quitters Inc to help him kick the habit, only to find it's a Mob-run company that has very strong methods to ensure you quit; Robert Hays (Airplane!) is the boyfriend of a woman involved with a dangerous hoodlum who forces him into a deadly bet - that he can't safely walk around the thin ledge of a building's 30th floor; and Drew Barrymore is a little girl terrorised in the night by a breath-stealing troll that lives behind her skirting board. This mid 80s anthology flick of three Stephen King stories (connected by the loose thread of the titular feline who gets involved in all) is a funny and creepy delight that has always been one of my favourites, and still is. Always go back to this every few years, it's just so much fun.

Night of the Lepus. Attack of the giant killer bunny rabbits! This early 70s horror flick has to be seen to be believed, not least because it's done entirely straight without even the slightest hint of irony or tongue in cheek...

I bet Anya thinks it's the scariest movie ever made.
