Saw the latest X Files film, I Want To Believe, for the first time last night.

Mm, not bad. Not great, but an enjoyable enough thriller, light years away from the sci-fi blockbuster feel of the first feature film, though. Quite nice to catch up with Mulder and Scully again after all these years, though.

Too bad the worst elements of the last two seasons were heavily present, namely the new, bitchy, whiny, stupid, constantly-crying Scully. I can't believe how Carter turned one of the finest fictional characters into such a crappy display. The aliens should have just succeeded in killing the devil spawn in Scully's belly and we might have avoided all this.

I am a huge fan of The X-Files and it affected my life in so many ways. That's why I'm so pissed off with the way Carter handled the last two seasons.

Saw No Country For Old Men last night. After all the hype, I'm afraid I found it pretty boring and pointless. I'm somewhat baffled as to why Tommy Lee Jones' character was even in it, since he never did anything to shape or affect the plot or even met the other two main characters! They could have cut his stuff out entirely and not changed anything. And then it would have finished quicker!

Saw An American Werewolf in London last night. Still a classic.
Love the great John Woodvine, delivering one of the great lines in cinema history:

"I'm sure if there were a monster roaming around the North of England, we'd have seen it on the telly."

Saw The Dark Knight last night, having missed it at the cinema. Eh, it was alright. Overrated, though. I'm not a big fan of the new version - trying to make a 'realistic', 'gritty' thriller out of a premise as essentially absurd as Batman is a bit of a waste of time, IMHO! And the end result is pretty humourless. Okay, I suppose, but frankly I prefer the Burton movies. Christian Bale is a very cold actor, as well, and I find it hard to care about him as either Batman or Bruce.

Watched the appropriately Christmassy Batman Returns again last night. Still a classic. Love it, dark, weird, Gothic and marvellously bizarre. Great performances from Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny Devito and Christopher Walken. When you get to the climax, with an army of penguins descending on Gotham with rocket launchers strapped to their backs, all you can think is, "You don't get this sort of s**t in The Dark Knight, dude".

Obviously The Dark Knight calls for more realism in settings and dialogue, and with the great success of this movie, this could be the future thread for superhero movies.
And the penguins were too much for me too.
Still, I hope the genre doesn't get too serious in the next years...

Saw The Wedding Singer again last night. Great comedy, and very charming. Just about the only good Adam Sandler film!


Can't believe it's over a decade old now, either. God, I feel old!
