Mission Impossible. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is framed for treason and murder when his entire IMF team is apparently wiped out during an operation and, going on the run, takes extreme risks to prove his innocence and smoke out the real traitor. The original MI film remains a cool classic 25 years (God I'm old etc) on, filled with great set-pieces and helmed with typically assured class and flair by Brian De Palma. Classic. :D

Madman. A campfire legend comes true when a bunch of camp counsellors are attacked by an axe-wielding lunatic out of local legend, "Mad Man Mars". This 1981 slasher horror is as familiar as it gets, but is pretty well made and atmospheric. The only cast member I recognise is Gaylen Ross, who was the heroine in the original Dawn of the Dead, and the ending is a tad abrupt but this was pretty entertaining for all its familiarity, helped by a cracking Blu ray restoration. :D

The Final Cut

Image

It is a novel idea in poorly directed and with the wrong actors. It could have been a great movie :r

Just Before Dawn. Five youngsters head up to the mountains for a camping trip... stop me if you've heard this one before. It's all fun and games until the local inbred maniac comes out with a machete. This early 80s slasher horror is nicely atmospheric, but takes a while to get going, though I did like the midpoint twist (which actually made me gasp) and the heroine's rather...er... novel way of dispatching the killer at the end. 8)

Miracle Mile. A young man (Anthony Edwards) finally meets his dream girl and after spending the day together, arranges to meet her after her work shift at 12:15am, only to fall asleep and end up very, very late. Arriving at the all-night diner where she works, he makes the mistake of picking up a ringing phone only to overhear a garbled message from a frantic soldier - who thinks he's calling his dad - that nuclear war is coming and the missiles will be there within the hour. Edwards tries to find his girl and somehow get out of the city, but as word spreads chaos erupts all over, with no one even sure if the call was real or just a sick joke. This paranoid late 80s thriller remains very effective, having the feel of a nightmare that the main character is trapped within.

Definitely not designed to be "concealed" weapons.
I mean, where would you hide them?
