snaps wrote:The novel and screenplay are by the same author so it cant be criticised on grounds of poor adaptation, but the book is very dense in detail. The film is essentially a slimmed down, skimmed milk version of the book. Not bad though. I'm glad he resisted the temptation to try to cram in too much detail. It is quite slow paced though, which I dont mind as I like langourous films and it left many questions unanswered (which they are in the book). No doubt a marketing ploy to sell more copies of the book. It was very sad, quite weepy and tragic take :cry:

The director is the one who decides what ends up in the final print, but if you liked the movie then reading the book will be rewarding. You can tell there are parts of the movie that were setting up book moments that were later left out, here's an interview with the author where he talks a little about it:

I wouldn't say it's weepy, exactly, especially if you read the book and the interview. I mean, I think it's supposed to be a bit of a happy ending, Eli rescued Oskar from his tormentors and they ran away together.

As for vampire movies influencing dumb lifestyle choices, well, people don't need books or movies for that. The main problem with Twilight is it's just really bad. No idea about the books but if they're anything like the movie, zzz.

When I read this before I didn't notice exactly what you said here, and now it seems like such a good straight line that I can't resist trying to find a suitable punchline for it.

Something like....I originally thought you were a werewolf so I guess all the silver bullets I bought were a waste of time then. Damn wig fooled me.
or.....No honestly, it's just a splinter. You just hold the other end and pull it sharply towards your heart.
or.....Come on, I swear it's only midnight, peak hour traffic just started early today.
:P :twisted: :T :D _O^

Stumbled upon another podcast. This is on rowthree.com which has tons of stuff about lots of films but whose search engine I can't get to work, so it's unexplored ground as far as I'm concerned. Have a browse if you want.

This is an hour long group chat about the vampire movies Twilight and Let The Right One In, (LTROI starts at around 23 mins). Interesting to hear the views of others, espectially when they re-affirm your own. :Y

LTROI is out on dvd tomorrow here in Oz. Been looking on the net, but still can't find any word as to whether it's the right subtitles or not... I'm not buying it again until I know (even if it means having to rent it first! :roll: )!

Evidence of the suspected ''dumbing down'' : The US remake has reduced the title to ''Let Me In'' :roll:

Is that an insult to their audience or what? :shock:
I wonder if they've hacked 40% out of the storyline as well so it's sanitised enough.
Probably now set in a desert. :roll:

Bad enough with remaking foreign language films at all, but then to change everything.....makes me so mad. :x
No way I'm going to see it. *:|* :T

Continues taking the tablets.....feels better now.Image

This is going to be of absolutely no use to anyone, unless....
* You live in Australia.
* Have access to pay TV movie channels.
* See it in time. and
* Are home tonight.

World Movies channel at 8:00 central time tonight, Sunday 18th April 2010, are showing Let The Right One In.

Great film.
Hope they use the better sub-titles.
