I've only watched Water Lilies once and that was through all the sections loaded onto U-tube. Toyed with the idea of buying it but so far it just hasn't become the highest priority.

Nice review though. Felt a lot of sympathy for Marie over the treatment she recieved, especially early in the film. Think I should see it again, so maybe it'll climb a rung or two on my "to buy" list.

Compromise....

....Burned it. Watched it. Loved it.

Used some HQ clips on U-t and got a pretty fair result. It's much better on a big screen than on the pc with all those little clips.

Where to begin...
Marie is adorable, so sad, she know that she wants an impossible dream, doesn't know what to do about it.
Floriane is beautiful, doesn't know what she wants, seems bored by and scared of the boys.
Anne knows what she wants, knows what to do to get it, knows she'll probably fail.

Agree about the breathing. Locker room, kiss, listen to Floriane, look at Marie. Sensuous, sad, beautiful.

I wish I could change the ending, but it's a beautiful film.

And:

I pity the women of France if all their men turn out like the water polo guy who's idea of foreplay, (when he's just about to give it to Anne), is to say "You're OK".

Always a personal favourite of mine. Very smooth.

''I bet you'd look good in rubber'' reminds me of the quote from the musical Rent. "There will always be women in rubber flirting with me."

Though when all else has failed there's always the old reliable, "I suppose a f*cks out of the question?"

I can't leave this unanswered. I have to defend my country against these spurious allegations. So, with a fine tooth comb I went through every word, every nuance, every context. Picked it to shreds, packed it all in the blender, poured it onto the benchtop and moulded it back into shape, and yet I still can't see the point you're trying to make. Are you trying to suggest there's something wrong with these chat-up lines?
