Sill & Snaps

Sill & Snaps is swedish for herring and a type of alcohol

It's sort of a swedish national dish, especially in the summer together with early potatoes

Cheers Magnus! :D

I hope snaps is the drink rather than a kind of herring! (looks at fish  ) I would really like to get into Swedish food more seriously. I'm not a veggie, but I don't eat much meat, although I yummy fish. I adore crayfish, *:)* but very hard to find in these parts. I like venison too. Apart from the fermented fish though, I find most IKEA food to be a bit bland for my tastes *:|* Generally I like my food burned to a frazzle. I like smoked meats, smoked fish, and smoked cheese, with cigarettes in-between. I love a BBQ, and the more burned the better. MMM Swiss Beef Charbonnade. :)P BBQ'd spare ribs :P , and I like sweet and sour, but the MSG gives me nightmares :r I love Swedish meatballs, but the local IKEA has phased out new potatoes for chips. Chips tend to drown out the flavour of meatballs. 8)

I'm not big on Swedish sweet stuff, like cinnamon rolls etc. I'm more Tiramasu and evil cheesecakes, but I get horny over Semla. But WTF lingonberry jam? I needed urgent dental treatment after my last attempt. Those seeds are lethal!

We should deffo have a food thread on this site! :Y

Re swedish food

There are many traditional dishes, but of course in this country like in every other western country there are nowadays a lot of foreign foods and a lot of junk food

McDonalds, kebab, pizza, chinese etc are eveywhere to be found

Herring and meatballs are still popular though, and easy to prepare at home

Herring is sold in the supermarkets with a variety of flavours

The snaps also has many different flavours from different berries etc

I can see a problem with this. I'm having a casual conversation with fish, saying how much I enjoyed having the taste of snaps in my mouth last night, and the next thing I know I'm getting slapped.

:P

Sorry. :T
