RIP

We should probably have a thread for this, given how many legends have left us in 2015.

Sadly, we can now add horror director Wes Craven to the list, who has died of brain cancer at the age of 76. Craven was responsible for many legendary horror movies from the 70s through to the 10s, including two of the greatest horror movies ever, the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream. Very sad to hear this. :(

I prefer art movies of course, but I have a soft spot for the horror genre. Wes Craven was an innovator for the horror scene. Too bad he has left us... *:|*

Actress Catherine E Coulson, who achieved fame as the eccentric Log Lady in Twin Peaks, and who was set to return to the show in its new series, has died of cancer aged 71. :(

Sorry to hear that Australian actor Robin Stewart died last month. Stewart played the dastardly Dr Ross Newman on Sons and Daughters, one of the show's greatest and nastiest guest villains who in a relatively short period managed to create absolute havoc, trying to send Patricia crazy (well, crazier ;)) and kill her on the operating table, getting Barbara hooked on prescription medicine while two-timing her with naive young Katie, planting drugs on Andy when he suspected him, and even going so far as to kidnap Beryl's newborn baby for the ransom! All while pretending to be Mr Charm.
He was a great *******! :D RIP. :(

Sadly there's been another one that I never heard about till now:

Anthony Valentine died earlier this month at the age of 76. Valentine had a massive career in British television and film stretching back five decades including such shows as Raffles and Colditz. I first encountered him as the forbidding devil-worshipping Baron de Belleme in several memorable episodes of Robin of Sherwood in the 80s, though perhaps his greatest role was as the charming yet sharp-tongued and utterly ruthless Toby Meres in classic 60/70s spy drama Callan, which I only saw the first time last year and utterly fell in love with.
Very sad to hear this. :(

More sad news. :(

I loved his performances as the callous Meres in Callan.

Angus Scrimm, Lawrence Rory Guy his real name, an iconic horror actor, died yesterday, 9 Janauary, at the age of 89. He was most known for his emblematic role as the Tall Man, the seemengly immortal antagonist of the Phantasm film series. His last movie Phantasm V: Ravager, which will hopefully conclude this dreamy story, is to be released this year.

"Why must not Death be redefined?" - Patti Smith

The fear of Eternal Death, of annihilation, is the root of all fears; it's also the root of all political coercion and oppression ["Power starts at the barrel of a gun" - Mao]. Do as you're told or we'll kill you, is always the bottom line.

But what if Death is coming home, to the Happy Lands where there is no pain or fear? The most cursory sampling of the ever-growing Near Death Experience {NDE] literature paints a very coherent, and very different picture of 'the afterlife' than the nothingness that 'Science' offers, or the heaven/hell bullshit purveyed by the churches.

Obviously we miss our loved ones. But hey, it does begin to look like they might be a great deal better off than we ever imagined.

RIP Starman! Enjoy the break.
