Fire in Sydney

Postby Santi » Tue Apr 17, 2018 2:06 am

I forgot to ask about the fire that happened in Sidney.

In Catalonia every year there are fires, but compared with yours are nothing.
Your fires are very scary, they are very big.
The most important is to be happy!
(sorry for my mistakes I don't speak english very well.
I write and read with the help of Google Translate)
Catalonia, new state of the world!

There are some large and mountainous areas to the west of Sydney, even into the suburbs.
Many national parks and wilderness areas that are not under a fire management regime.
In times of drought and heat these areas are susceptible to bush fires which are difficult to fight because the terrain is so rough.

In fact, all the main cities in Australia face periods every year when the fire risk is extreme.
Like everyone else I hope they can bring this fire under control before too much damage is done.

As an example of the impenetrable terrain, about twenty years ago a species of native tree (the Wollemi Pine) was discovered close to Sydney, after being believed to be extinct for around thirty million years. Fossils of the trees were the only evidence they had ever existed.
This led to the creation of the Wollemi World Heratige area of about 500,000 hectares.
At the moment there are seven "alerts" for bush fires in the park.
This and similar areas are almost impossible to just "visit" because of the terrain.
