I'm resuscitating this very old thread to ask a question: is the group still alive? I watched this clip on youtube where it's stated: "Broder Daniel's last concert ever. Filmed at the Way Out West festival in Göteborg/Gothenburg 08.08.2008. It was a perfect night. "
see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HekLmfYg4-w (Broder Daniel live at Way Out West 2008 - Shoreline) by the way good video even if technically not perfect. In the Gothenburg (sp?) festival they gave a last farewell to Anders Gothberg who committed suicide jumping from a bridge.

Broder Daniel is the group I loved most from the FÅ soundtrack so I was hoping they could give us some more music. Now it seems they were gone even before I watched the movie in 2008. Is this "last concert ever" thing based on some real information? Pls answer me if you know something about.

By the way, Shoreline seems a really sad song to me... and sad turned to depressing when I found the lyrics, as you can read below. Still, I'd like to hear more from BD.

Shoreline lyrics

ever since I was eight or nine
I've been standing on the shoreline
for all my life I've been waiting
for something lasting
you loose your hunger and you loose your way
you get confused and then you fade away

oh this town
kills you when you are young
oh this town
kills you when you are young

I'm not the boy that I used to be
this town has got the youth of me
all the eyes turn hollow
from the work of sorrow

you die young
you die when you're young
you die when you're young

we are shadows
oh we're shadows
we're shadows in the alley

you're standing on the paving
by the office building
they've got so much to do
never time for you

you die young
you die when you're young
you die when you're young

we are shadows
oh we're shadows
just shadows in the alley

I've got nothing
nothing to wait for
nothing to wait for

where is life
in this town
where is life in this town

It was a real shock to the band and all BD fans that Anders Göthberg committed suicide, and prior to this he didn't seem to have any serious problems, he had a girlfriend and a young son, so this was a mystery.

Broder Daniel had already made a 'last concert' in 2005 actually, but because of this tragic event they decided to make another final concert.

They also released a compilation album in early 2005 with the title No Time For Us, but since then an album with their singles and a new film called Broder Daniel Forever (with clips from concerts and some interviews and such) were released in 2009.

It's been stated many times that lead singer Henrik Berggren are working on a solo album, and they will not release anything more as a band.

Here is a rare TV performance of Shoreline from 2001, Anders Göthberg is the guy standing in the background playing the guitar:

Swedish singer Anna Ternheim have also done a pretty good cover of this song:

Thanks for the information. I see they don't have a long discography list, it's a shame.

I should be way too old to appreciate some of BD themes, but I really like most of their songs (the ones I could listen to).

I can't pretend to have heard them all, but what I have heard I really like too.
Pity about Anders. That's a sad thing to happen.

Thanks for the links Magnus. Shoreline is great.

They have both teenagers and grown-ups among their fans so that doesn't matter

A couple of the guys from BD went on to create the band Hästpojken (means "horse boy"), which is pretty good. Also, Broder Daniel's original bass player, Håkan Hellström, left the band in 2004 and has had a really successful solo career in Sweden. I can recommend you to check out both if you liked BD. If you can stand the fact that they sing in Swedish, that is :P

It was the drummer from BD who joined Hästpojken, but he has since left the band for personal reasons

Håkan Hellström has had a successful solo career, but he became much more of a mainstream artist doing this

Hellström left the band in 2002, and a few other members have also joined and left the band over the years

The core of BD was always Henrik Bergren, drummer Lars Malmros, and guitarrist Anders Göthberg, who took his own life

I guess it's the same story with bands all over the world.
People coming and going for personal, health, direction, whatever reasons.
It's a shame when it affects a band you like but it seems inevitable much of the time. I guess at least it gives many bands added longevity, so there's still a chance of a Broder Daniel rebirth.
