How nervous were you on your first date with the same or opposite sex? And why do you think we get nervous?

I was pretty nervous on my first date with my now ex-boyfriend. I had major butterflies in my stomach and I was a little shaky. It's weird, though. I'm usually really shy and quiet but when we actually sat down to eat, I could not shut up. He was just sitting there with a grin on his face while I went on and on about random crap. I guess that's a form of nervousness. (But I guess he liked it b/c we stayed together for a year after that.) 
And I agree with loveagnes. I think we get nervous due to all the expectations (good and/or bad).
