I don't know if anyone in here knows Polish but is it similar to Swedish? And are they both germanic languages?

No, Polish is a Slavic language and more similar to Russian than to Swedish. As far as I know these two languages don't have very much in common.

but swedish quite close to german and english

if you want to research something like that
wikipedia has for languages also the language famliy in the articles
