Cute girls but does it have any substance?

I'm thinking of things like, er, story, good acting, story, character development, story.
You know, the little things. :P

Soap:

Jodie (who's gay)brings home his new female friend to meet his mum, stepdad and brothers (including Chuck, the one who carries his ventriloquists dummy, Bob, everywhere he goes and treats him as real). The girl is gay as well, however, and none of the family appear to know how to treat her. After initial introductions, there is an awkward silence, until Bob pipes up with, "So, I hear you're a big lesbo?!"

Eerie Indiana: Heart on a Chain. This creepy, sad episode feels almost like a different series to the show's usual comic-book madcap style. A pretty new girl - in need of a heart transplant - attracts the attention of Marshall and a reckless classmate. When said classmate is killed in a tragic accident, guess whose heart the girl ends up with? Oddly enough, though, that heart doesn't seem to like it when she and Marshall get together... A genuinely haunting episode with a kicker of an ending.

Doctor Who - The Eleventh Hour. I did shove on The Waters of Mars, but 5 minutes of Tennant just set my teeth on edge, so I turned it off and put on Matt Smith's debut again instead. :P Love it. I've seen this 4 times in just under 9 months (which is very unusual for me) and it just gets better every time I watch it. So many great moments, the majority of them from Smithy who, I have to say, has now eclipsed Eccleston for me to become the best Doctor since Sylv (and thus the best of the modern ones). He's just got the stuff, man. I think last season is also a lot better than I initially thought (possibly because I was in a rather negative state of mind thanks to the dire last few years of the previous era), possibly the best NuWho season in fact.
This one's fast becoming a real favourite. :D *:)*

Finished off season 1 and gone straight into season 2 of The Big Bang Theory. I only saw my first ep a couple of weeks back. Still, it's nice to have a new comedy series that I actually like. *:)* :D

PD James - Device and Desires (first 3 pts). Can't remember anything else, but I can still remember the woman in the broken down car on the dark road being strangled by "The Whistler", the serial killer dressed as a woman with a blazing light on his head, from when I saw some of it back in 1991. Must have burned itself in my consciousness!

Doctor Who - Rose. Oh dearie me. After so enjoying watching Smithy's debut again last week, I thought I'd wander back to 2005 and watch Eccleston's. So bad it hurts, frankly... *:|*

Dawson's Creek - To Be Or Not To Be/That Is The Question. Excellent 2 parter dealing with the revelation of Jack's sexuality. The real highlight, though, is Pacey's spectacular face-off with the truly vile English teacher, the fierce confrontation that ends with him spitting in the guy's face one of the show's finest moments. My hero!

Sons & Daughters: John, who has always stuck up for Patricia and refused to believe many of the things people say about her, has just found out that not only she did drive Martin Healy to suicide, she also destroyed evidence that it WAS suicide and was happy to let his father rot in jail for murder.

JOHN: That's my mother..... Right now... I'd like to kill the bitch.
