The news is changing rapidly.
As I understand it, the West Australian fire is now under control but if the winds pick up it could again get out of hand.
A stubble fire has broken out near the town of Port Lincoln in South Australia but is expected to be brought under control by nightfall today.
The Queensland fires have increased in areas from Brisbane in the south to Townsville in the far north. (I hope Ian's OK)
The New South Wales fires are at their peak today with adverse weather conditions and exhausted crews are working 'round the clock to try and contain them.
I have no later information about fatalities or further loss of property.
Fire warnings in areas along the east coast of Australia have been raised from "extreme" to "catastrophic".
I'm hoping for better news as the day progresses.
