M$ arrogance and spywarish spookery REALLY annoys me - so much so that I'm seriously thinking of making this here netbox my next Linux machine.

You can do all the usual stuff straight out of the box, ie browsing/email/pix/vid/music/etc; there's no M$ bloatware or Windows spyware [or uh viruses], it's a secure operating system from the ground up, the price is right [free/contribution-based]; if you want really seriously powerful programs, like for music or video production, you're looking at paying £50-60 instead of £500-600...and oldish machines, like mine, seem to suddenly wake up and start champing at their bits [pun intended].

The only slight problem [after choosing which distribution best suits your needs - I've got AVLinux on an old laptop and am very happy with it] is relearning how to handle files, directories, user rights & permissions - admin type stuff - in a natively secure OS.

That, and the then-fledgeling status of the OS, put me off for years, but not any more; not since M$ started pushing Win10 onto 'their' PCs, whether you want it or not. I'll still have Windows PCs, because I invested quite heavily in programs and hardware for music on that platform; but they won't be on the Net, except for dire necessities.

I confidently predict that very soon companies who don't offer Linux versions of their programs/hardware will be losing lots of sales...especially to me

I'd get another email client, Ian, hotmail is notorious for spam/spyware/general crapness.

Turned out to be something to do with the browser rather than hotmail itself. Had to reset something. No idea why, since I didn't change it in the first place!

Technology (of course) seems to find ever new and more inventive ways to screw up.
So far, five discs wasted trying to burn new DVDs. The most inventive was DVD Flick creating a DVD that was a mix of the project currently on and the one just before it. It even had two different menus somehow.
Someone explain that to me, please. :T

I'm getting well cheesed off. I seem to be wasting as many discs as are actually been done successfully for some reason. I don't know whether it's the discs, Flick, my burner or what. Turning a difficult project into a total pain in the arse! :T  *:|*

Got some re-recordable discs and it's going much better! I'm not using Flick anymore - both my DVD players will play MP4, MPEGs and Movie Clips, so I'm converting the few that aren't already in those formats to them and just saving them to an ordinary disc - and it works beautifully! So much quicker, so much simpler. *:)* :D
