Slide by Jill Hathaway. YA thriller with a supposedly narcoleptic teenage girl who "slides" into the head of other people when she blacks out. Worrying and disorienting at the best of times, but when she slides into the head of someone standing over a brutally murdered cheerleader with a bloody knife... Rather worryingly, I enjoyed this more than just about any of the so-called adult fiction books I've read this year. Let's not comment on what that says about my emotional maturity level...

The Raising by Laura Kasischke. The tragic death of a college angel in an accident leads to an apparent haunting, but neither the girl nor the accident were entirely what they seemed - and neither is the "haunting". An apparent ghost story turns into a chilling sorority conspiracy in this eerie thriller.

A delicious novel, made even better when read with a friend and a little seasoning.

I'm deep in the saga series A Song of Ice and Fire (known from the HBO series Game of Thrones) atm.
Finishing up on volume 7 soon, in less then a month and a half.
They are quite addictive.

Wicked Beyond Belief: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper. In 1975 in the north of England a serial killer who would come to be known as "the Yorkshire Ripper" took his first victim, sparking off a five year reign of terror and the biggest manhunt in British history. The police were ill-equipped to deal with the ever-increasing scope of the madman's crimes and between the lack of technology, false leads (millions of pounds and hours were wasted pursuing the writer of a series of letters (and an audio tape) purported to be from the killer, but which was actually an elaborate hoax that sent the police off in entirely the wrong direction) and, it has to be said, some examples of staggering incompetence, by the time the killer was apprehended (ironically enough by chance by two uniformed officers who initially pulled him in for picking up a known prostitute) 13 women had been murdered and 7 others savagely attacked. This is an extraordinary and gripping account of that dark time that remains resonant in the UK, and particularly in the north of England, even after over 30 years.

Death in the City of Light by David King. The disturbing true story of a serial killer who operated in Nazi-Occupied Paris, luring his victims by posing as a member of the French Resistance who could help to smuggle them out of the city. Chilling stuff.
